Grantham's history is noted for some remarkable industrial achievements, as well as having produced two world famous public figures in Sir Isaac Newton and former prime minister Margaret Thatcher. While Grantham's citizens may no longer be as well recognised many of its most famous buildings have stood the test of time. It is home to one of Britain's oldest inns, dating from the 12th century and the Guildhall Arts centre is a unique example of Victorian Gothic architecture. Meanwhile, in common with other churches in the surrounding area, St Wulfram's in Grantham has a very tall spire - allegedly the 6th tallest in the UK. Much of the history of the area is contained within Grantham Museum, while Belton House is also near to most hotels in Grantham and certainly worth a visit.
The golf course at Belton Woods is considered to be one of the finest in the Midlands and with two 18 hole championship options and a shorter nine hole version, there's sure to be something to please even the most hardened golf aficionado. For something a bit more relaxing the hotel offers a Serenity spa with specialised treatments rooms that are perfect for a good pampering.
Grantham is situated on the A1, making it very easy to access from both northern and southern parts of the country. The East Coast mainline also runs through the town, which offers one of the fastest ways of connecting major cities including London and Edinburgh. This ease of access means that if you are looking for a well placed training room or meeting room, Grantham is a particularly good destination.
