History

Carden Park is situated in some of Cheshire's most beautiful countryside. It is no wonder that the site has been occupied since paleolithic times.

The history of Carden Park really starts when the land was acquired in the early 17th century by the Leche Family. An elegant Hall was built and the grounds of the park landscaped and stocked with deer. The Hall was ransacked by Cromwell's troops but survived and continued to be inhabited.

Unfortunately, in 1912, the main Hall burnt down in a fire, allegedly after someone dropped a cigarette at a party there. Photographs of the Hall show a highly decorated timber framed building, reprised in the rebuilt Hotel which you see today.

Construction of golf courses and the purchase of Carden Park by De Vere has led to a restoration of its fortunes, so much so, that when Manchester was bidding to host the 2000 Olympic Games, Carden Park was proposed as a venue for some events, including shooting and archery.

Over the last few years nearly £10 million has been invested in the Hotel, with extensive refurbishment of its rooms, restaurants and golf clubhouse.
