History

A majestic, Elizabethan-style mansion, built in 1859 and lovingly restored to its former glory.

Dunston is on the river Tas and records of the village extend back several centuries; records show that nearly all the parishioners died of the plague in 1349.

In the 19th Century, the Long family owned the land and lordship of the manor passed from father to son over the generations. 150 acres of wooded land from the Estate were sold off in 1859 and unusually for the time, an Elizabethan-style country retreat was built by the new owners.

The beautiful red brick mansion was well maintained, but when purchased by De Vere Hotels, it was sympathetically restored and extended.
