De Vere Wokefield Estate, near Reading – part of the De Vere portfolio of country estate hotels – has unveiled the results of its £20 million refurbishment, which includes a complete restoration of its historic Mansion House and the creation of new food and beverage outlets.

The impressive Mansion House has been restored to glory and takes its place once again at the heart of De Vere Wokefield Estate. Originally built in the 1560s then rebuilt in 1720s by Charles Parry; the Mansion House offers 87 guestrooms, with many featuring roll top baths and king size beds. Whilst a further 289 bedrooms can be found in Wokefield Place and Wellington Lodge.

Each room showcases luxurious, distinctly British interiors blending a heritage colour palette of muted greens, greys, taupe and cream with contemporary fixtures and fittings to create spaces that are restful and calming; perfect for a country retreat. Fluffy ropes and slippers, classic Roberts radios, quality toiletries and smart TVs are just some of the features that provide a tranquil feel to the reimagined guest rooms with plush cushions and impressive floor space can also be found in some of the room types.

Guests are well catered for when it comes to dining and socialising. The new, 90-seater 1560 Restaurant & Bar in the Mansion House, will serve a British-inspired menu with dishes including caramelised duck breast, salted ham hock terrine and local English cheeses, alongside a range of craft beers, wines and classic cocktails when it launches next month. The 1560 Restaurant & Bar also serves traditional Champagne afternoon teas. A new Whiskey Lounge has opened for those looking to unwind pre- or post-dinner; and the re-designed restaurant, The View, located in Wokefield Place, offers a range of delicious daily changing dishes, using locally sourced fresh ingredients. An outdoor pizza oven has been introduced on the terrace, which serves artisan stone baked pizzas.

Peter Sangster, Venue Director at De Vere Wokefield Estate, commented: “We’re delighted with the results of the refurbishment; the attention to detail and beautiful marriage of modern functionality with classic style is really quite breath-taking and we firmly believe that we have created a property that caters perfectly for our guests, whatever their reason for visiting.  The transformation has breathed new life into the property.
