De Vere x Ed Elliott: a sculptural collaboration rooted in history

At De Vere we believe in creating memorable experiences that connect people to history and nature. It is within the timeless setting of De Vere Tortworth Court that we are thrilled to announce our exclusive collaboration with acclaimed sculptor Ed Elliott.

This partnership celebrates the natural beauty of the hotel estate and its historic arboretum through Ed’s artistic vision. It is an exciting opportunity for our guests to experience the fusion of history, nature, and creativity, elevating the sense of place at our hotel and enriching the cultural landscape of De Vere Tortworth Court.

I am delighted to be partnering with De Vere as their first artist in residence, De Vere is committed to preserving their historic mansion houses, which goes hand-in-hand with what I do with wood – so it felt like a natural partnership.

About Ed and the Trees at TOR

Meet the sculptor

Ed Elliott is an award-winning sculptor known for his large-scale figurative works, often designed with specific sites in mind. Renowned for his innovative wood and bronze sculptures, Ed’s emotive and distinctive style has earned him national acclaim. Based in the West Midlands, his public pieces are exhibited across the UK and internationally, with work collected globally.

The trees of Tortworth

In 1853, the 3rd Earl of Ducie began planting hundreds of trees on the grounds of Tortworth Court, including many rare specimens. His vision transformed the estate into an arboretum that rivaled the famous Westonbirt, and it continues to be recognised as one of the finest in the British Isles. Recently, a 400 year-old cedar tree reached the end of its natural life, but will live on through a series of bespoke sculptures by Ed.

The exhibition

Ed Elliott’s residency at De Vere Tortworth Court showcases a collection of his sculptural works throughout the historic arboretum and hotel grounds, including public spaces and the terrace.

The centrepiece is Greer, Guardian Angel #10, on display alongside other works from 16 April to 16 July. Ed is also creating a new sculpture from a 400-year-old cedar tree that recently came to the end of its life on the estate. The piece will be shaped using power carving tools and Ed’s signature Yakisugi-inspired finish, then unveiled as part of the exhibition.

We are incredibly excited to be working with the exceptionally talented Ed Elliott on our first ever artist in residence programme. The exhibition will enable us to use our extensive grounds at De Vere Tortworth Court in a new way, enhancing their natural beauty and providing an accessible experience for our guests.
