A luxury stay inspired by Latimer House in the 1940s
The story of Latimer House at the heart of De Vere Latimer Estate took an extraordinary direction during World War II when it was commandeered by the Ministry of Defence to be used as a top secret centre for military intelligence - and a prison for German prisoners of War. The operations carried out during this time were so highly classified, much of the information has only just come to light: and some of it is yet to be revealed.
This very special offer gives you the opportunity to stay in one of the beautiful mansion house rooms which housed the military British intelligence staff and walk the grounds where the German POWs were interrogated. You’ll also get a ‘ration’ box, a taster of Latimer pink gin (favoured by the British Generals who would toast the success of their prisoner interrogations with a pink gin cocktail). You’ll also get a copy of ‘The Walls Have Ears’ by historian Dr Helen Fry.
There’s also the option to add a 1940s-themed afternoon tea to be taken in the grand setting of the library where the high-ranking German prisoners were wined and dined.
Use the code HISTORY to book this very special package from just £99 per room, or £143 with afternoon tea.
