Q: We love a love story, so please tell us all about yours! How did you meet and what is your proposal story?

We were both out celebrating a mutual friend’s birthday and we got talking, got drinking, got singing along to Oasis…and then moved onto a club before sharing a sneaky first kiss! Due to Rob’s work, it would be a few weeks before we’d see each other again, however we kept in touch and text each other every day.

Our proposal story is based in a very small village in Cornwall called Mousehole. As a child Rob used to spend his summer holidays here with his family. They loved the place so much they ended up buying a cottage there to enjoy for many years to come. I’d heard all the family stories and Rob promised me we would visit one day.

In December 2022, it was finally my turn to visit. Each year the village puts on an incredible Christmas lights display in the harbour, and as Christmas is my favourite time of year, I knew this would be right up my street! On the Saturday night of our long weekend, Rob suggested a walk round the harbour. Once we’d got to his favourite spot right in the middle of the lights, he produced a small square box with a ring inside. After some lovely romantic words, of course my answer was yes.

A short time after, as the choir in the harbour started to sing Christmas songs and cups of mulled wine were being poured, we were soaking up our newly engaged bubble in what felt like something straight out of a Hallmark film.

Q: What were your top priorities when choosing your wedding venue?

A: We really wanted to be able to party on our wedding day into the night! So, a venue with bedrooms was at the top of our list. We’d been to weddings before where the lights go up at midnight and the party stops for everyone to go home – we knew that wasn’t our style.

Also, on the top of our list was a dog-friendly venue, as our rescue dog Darla would be present on the day, albeit without a starring role, we still needed a venue that would allow her to chill in our bedroom with regular visits and walks throughout the day. Wokefield were so accommodating with Darla – she even had her own bed and treats were waiting for her on arrival!

Q: We’re delighted that you chose De Vere Wokefield Estate as your wedding venue, please tell us why you chose us.

A: We came to visit Wokefield one evening and fell in love as soon as we saw it.

Walking around we could picture exactly how we’d have our day. We knew we’d be in safe hands and that all of our plans would be accommodated for. It was love at first sight!

Q: What was your favourite part of your wedding day?

A: As a bride, my favourite part of the day (apart from obviously getting married!) was dancing all night long. Knowing the 2 years of planning, prepping, saving and organising were done and I could celebrate all night with my friends and family. With Rob being a massive rock fan, we chose to have a “rock hour” on the dancefloor – this proved to be even more popular than we ever thought! People we hadn’t really seen dancing at weddings before were on the dancefloor having the best time. Ending the evening in a massive circle on the dancefloor, filled with so much love and happiness with everyone around was just so special.

Q: How did your coordinator assist in the planning for your wedding day?

A: Our coordinator Louise was faultless; I was amazed how every email I sent came back with “yes we can do that”, including allowing us to bring a 7ft pool table to our reception to make our “pub theme” vision for the evening come to life!

And, being so helpful when discussing plans around changing the evening food to a charcuterie style grazing board. Louise spoke with the Chefs to make sure it was something they could accommodate as it was something they hadn’t done before. We went for cheese wheels instead of a cake, so this worked perfectly with making sure everyone could help themselves to cheese in the evening.

Q: On your wedding day, how did your coordinator ensure everything ran smoothly?

A: Our coordinator and all the Wokefield staff were so friendly, welcoming and polite. No request was ever too much. Everything was done efficiently, to the best quality and with a smile on their face. As a self-confessed control freak, they kept me calm!

You can tell the staff love their jobs by the amount of care and attention given to everything asked of them. The customer service received all day was brilliant; a lot of the staff learnt a lot of our guest’s names which added a real personal touch.

Q: What advice would you give to other couples considering Wokefield Estate?

A: Simply, don’t put it off any sooner, book!

Q: Is there anything else you would like to share about your wedding day with us?

A: Just another massive thank you to all of the Wokefield staff! We look back on our day with the happiest memories. The staff are what makes days like ours the success it was. We can’t wait to come back again soon!
